OK here's a quick question.... what do residency directors look for? is it your grades? USMLE's? LOR?

Also who do you get LOR from when applying to residency? is it the dean from your medical school?

Should you get to know the residency directors in your first year of med school? how does it work out?!?

Thanks

They look at all of that. Your dean will write a "dean's letter" for all students. You get letters of recommendation from attendings you work with during your clinical rotations, perferably in the field you are planning on going into.

USMLE scores are filters. Then LOR's and what institution you are coming from, essentially. Highly competitive fields look at research/accomplishments.

You can get LORs from people you work with and have a good connection with you. Also the Dean will provide you with a letter when you are about to graduate.

good luck !!
