Hey there. Your first instinct is correct: the essay is 300 words and must address BOTH topics. This is not a long space in which to do so; I basically wrote three small paragraphs concerning these topics and kept it just under 300. It seemed short to me, especailly after writing three page essays for graduate school two years ago, but it can be done. Hope this helps.
