Hello,

I had a question about scheduling fourth year rotations. Specifically, my school offers an international rotation, and I am considering doing it in August of October of my fourth year. My concern is that because I would be going abroad for a month (and might not have a whole lot of internet access), if I go in August, this could harm my application process since ERAS is due around September 15th.

Do you all have any experience with doing rotations abroad around the same time that ERAS comes out? The other thing I was considering was just taking August "off" or doing an easy elective in order to finalize my personal statement, application, etc.

It's far better to go away for the month of August, come back and crank out the rest of ERAS at the beginning of September, than to be abroad for all of October and miss all those interview invites coming in.

If you know what you're going to apply for in like March, start working on a personal statement, finding letters of recommendation, etc. If you don't know until July, then start working on them as soon as you figure it out, and then tie up any loose ends when you get back in September, or find an internet cafe and slowly tie up loose ends while abroad.

Thanks for your replies.

Where are you going that wouldn't have internet access?

If I can post travel photos and check SDN and email from remote Indonesia, surely you can find an Internet cafe wherever you're going.

I am assuming I will have sporadic internet access (on weekends or when I can spare a time away from where I'm working to go find an internet cafe), but from previous experiences in developing countries I know that sometimes this is an issue.

Thanks mvenus for the advice--that is very helpful. It sounds like going in August is very reasonable if I stay on top of things.
