Hi everyone,

When financial aid offices ask for federal tax returns, do they want ALL the pages (including "Forms" and "Worksheets") or do we just send in 1040 and pages titled "Schedule __" ??

Also, when they say it has to be signed and dated, should it be signed by the student (me) or my parents? And where do I/we sign?

Sorry if these questions seem silly. This is my first time applying for financial aid, and I have no idea how this process works.

Thanks!

Generally they want a copy of the first two pages of the 1040. There's a line at the bottom of the second page where you sign and date. Your parents will have to do this for their own 1040 as well.

They are not auditors. Main numbers they need is your gross income, your AGI and taxes you actually paid. They want 1040 because you sign it under "oath", and you are subject to perjury if it is not true.

Sorry this might sound stupid but if you filed electronically do you still have sign it?

Print your submitted return. Check from your record, when was it filed electronically. Sign and put the date of submission on page 2. Rescan it, and you are ready to go. They also need parents’ signature on their return. Many schools also asked for W2 and all the schedules. Don’t forget o cross out SS number (except last four digits).
