Question about shadowing

So I'm very interested in shadowing a few physician specialties like opthalmology, psychiatry and maybe a few types of surgeries just to get a feel for what each job is like. My question is how exactly do I go about doing this? I don't really have any connections in the medical field besides my family doctor and a family friend who is also a family doctor. Would you guys recommend I just call a few places to ask or is there another way to land a shadowing opportunity?
