I recently received my MCAT scores back. Not as well as I had planned or expected, I got a 21N. My question is: What are my chances of getting up to a 28?

What are your individual scores? How did you prepare? Did you take the practice AAMC tests? If yes, how were you doing on those? Do you have a solid understanding of the prereqs for med school? Is English your first language? How bad do you want to go to med school? Do you have the self motivation to put in more months of studying?

My individual scores were: VR 6, PS 7, BS8. I prepared using practice books from Kaplan, I did not take the practice AAMC tests. I do understand the prereqs and am a Bio major with a Chem minor. English is not my first language, I moved here to the States in 2002 from Venezuela. I have the self motivation to put in more studying, and I do admit I did not prepare very well for my first time. All my life I have been wanting to become a Doctor, specially in the Pediatric field. I have shadowed and volunteered plenty. Thanks for the reply.

Its hard to say if you self admittedly didnt study as much as you could/should have.

If you were saying that you studied your hardest/took kaplan/etc and you still got a 21...I would say your changes of getting that to a 28 are pretty slim/none.

VR is notoriously hard to bring up for some people, but you should be able to get your PS and BS around 10s if you do understand these subjects. Buy the AAMC practice tests and use them to learn time management and review the answers to understand how to take the test. Take these tests as if it was the real thing and they will give you an idea of what to expect. There should be somewhere around 8 of them at $35 each, so study for a week or two, take a test, repeat. If all your life you have wanted to be a doctor then quit thinking about it, quit talking about it, quit reading about it on these forums and just do it.
