Hello everyone,
I have a question about transferring, and would appreciate opinions on my situation. I am currently a first year med student at an allopathic school in VA. I would like to transfer to Georgetown after this year is over. I have discovered that they accept 1st-2nd year transfers and that in the past, they have had ~3-4 slots open. Georgetown does not know how many slots they will have until this spring, at which time the applications are open.
I want to transfer because:
-as a med master student at Georgetown last year, I found the curriculum and teachers at Georgetown to be far superior than what I have experienced the past 2 months at my current school. I honestly believe that I will become a better doctor with the knowledge I would gain at Georgetown compared to my current school.
-Secondly, and perhaps most importantly, my father's health has declined in the past year, and by being closer to home (Maryland is home), I would be able to assist my dad with anything he may need.
I understand that this is a difficult process. I know that I will need a letter from my dean showing that I am in good standing. Do you think this is something I should bring to his attention now? What else should I be doing? Any thoughts?
Thanks
