question about Tufts

I was planning on applying to Tufts but I called and they said that they highly recommend having a general dentist write your recommendation (I got mine from an oral surgeon) and the lady was pretty adamant about it over the phone. Should I apply to Boston Uni instead?

Now ask that oral surgeon to refer you to a general dentist where you can finish that 30 hours. Problem solved. You may as well apply to both; if you will.

I'm not surprised, considering that a letter from a general dentist is listed as a requirement on their website.

Like Koalafied said, you could still get the required # of hours, ask the dentist to write you a letter of rec, and submit the application. The whole problem with that is that shadowing and waiting on that LOR could take a while. It is common courtesy to give recommenders at least a month to write a letter for you, and I'm not sure what kind of quality you could get with a letter that is rushed.

One thing I would not do is apply to a school without meeting the requirements that are spelled out for prospective applicants. The reason that the admissions lady was adamant about that letter is because it seems that that is something they require of their prospective students (very different from something that is highly recommended). So if you do decide to apply to Tufts, I think you should do the shadowing hours and ask for that LOR from a general dentist.

As far as whether you should apply to BU instead, that's your call.
