Question about UMDNJ Application

Hey guys,

Ok, so I REALLY want to apply to UMDNJ-COM but I know how serious they are about state residency. My issue is that while I myself am NOT a resident of New Jersey, my entire father's side is FROM New Jersey. My father, grandmother, and BOTH of her sisters and brother all own property in New Jersey, not to mention some of my cousins that are residents. This leads me to two questions:

1.) Does UMDNJ care about "Strong-Ties to the State" applicants?

2.) If so, does my situation make me a "Strong-Ties to the State" applicant?

Thanks for your help in advance guys! With the application cycle starting I should be posting more and look forward to meeting more of ya.

if you have good stats for the school you should most definitly apply. The may have a little in state preference but nothing crazy and there are plenty of OOS'ers who get in. Def. go for it if you like the school and the fact that you have family there is just a bonus. They won't turn you away, if they were the allo schools in NJ I would say maybe not to apply but they tend to be oos friendly.

If I remember correctly, I believe their in-state versus out-of-state is 80% versus 20%, respectively. So there is probably some preference but you definitely have a shot of getting into their school. I guess if you think it'll help mentioning something about having ties to Jersey or wanting to be there in some way you might be able to get that in somewhere.

I had no problems getting and interview and getting into UMDNJ and I am from out of state with no ties to the school.

I would apply to any schools that you're interested in unless they specifically say they don't take out of state students, which not many DO schools say.

There's generally going to be more people from in state than out of state at a school because more in state than out of state people apply from the beginning. So when statistics say 70% of students are from instate that doesn't mean you don't have a chance of getting in.

Seriously. You're going to apply to a good number of schools anyway (well... you should), so throw it on the list. UMDNJ is a great place. I loved it when I visited.
