Hello,
I'm sorry to post this here, but I need some advice from people who have been through the application process of dental school. I am currently a senior undergrad and I have applied to dental school this cycle. My stats are DAT 22AA, GPA 4.0 overall and science. I have over 200 shadowing hours, lab experience, volunteer experience, good LORs and personal statement. I have a red flag on my application that I was completely honest about. Last summer (over a year ago) I was arrested for trespassing and resisting arrest. I participated in a diversion program and my record was expunged. I only received one interview from the 10 schools I applied to. On my application and during my interview I explained the situation in detail. I was walking home from a bar with some friends and realized I left my debit card. When I walked back to the bar, I took a shortcut beside a construction zone. I thought I was outside the posted area (there was no fence), but when I got to the end of the block two policemen were there. When they said "you're under arrest" I panicked and ran about 10 feet. I came to my senses and stopped on my own, but they added resisting to the charges anyway. I did not get physical with them in any way. I simply ran and then stopped on my own. I felt like the best thing to do was to be honest about the experience and share what I had learned from it. There is no record of the arrest or a plea (I wasn't required to appear in court). December 1st came and went.. no word from the school I interviewed with. I have been rejected from 3 other schools... and I'm still under review at the other schools. I feel like I have the absolute worst luck.. about a week after my interview, I was arrested again for disorderly conduct. I was trying to break up a fight and the policeman thought I was part of the melee. All charges were dropped/dismissed. Unfortunantly when you google my name, my mug shot shows up with disorderly conduct as the charge. I have no idea what to do.. Do I just give up on my dream, apply to a post-bacc program, get a master's in another career path.. I would really appreciate some constructive advice. Thank you.

I wouldn't give up on your dream yet. The admissions cycle has really just kicked off in having the 1st round of acceptances go out. Having said that, best wishes towards the remainder of this cycle. If you find yourself not getting accepted anywhere, speak with the schools you had an interest in to find out where you can improve. If its simply because of the litigations you have, then don't bother reapplying there. If there are other reasons, then address them and reapply another time. With the academic profile you have, I would think you will be able to land a seat somewhere. Many applicants before you and after you will present with legal setbacks, but they still are able to rebound through dedication. Hang in there

I wouldn't give up just yet. When I applied way back when, I got accepted into dental school a week before I was going to turn in my app again to re-apply. The cycle is long and you never know when you'll get in. I've know many people who got in weeks before school started. Your situation is unfortunate but it's what you have to work with. Good luck with your cycle!

Thanks for the words of encouragement!
