Hey everyone,

I'm aiming to complete my AMCAS by the first week of June, and I was just wondering if secondary applications are generally sent via email/online or snail mail (or either depending on school). And how soon should I expect to receive them after AMCAS verification is completed?

I was thinking about going to Korea for about a month or so from July to some of August, but that won't be happening if I need to stay here in the states for the secondary applications.

Any help would be appreciated. 🙂

Secondary applications are generally made available online at the very least, and many are submittable online. Some schools still require you to send some items via snail mail. (Of the schools I applied to, GW, Rush, and Loyola required me to mail certain items in.)

Some schools will send you an invitation to complete a secondary as soon as you submit your application. Others wait until your application has been verified. So, your wait time to receive secondaries should include the time needed to verify your application, plus a week or two on average (if I remember correctly).

If you're planning on being abroad, you should be able to complete most of your applications online, but I would still maintain an in-country contact who can help facilitate anything that needs legwork to be done.

All this. The only thing I'd recommend is to make sure that you stay on top of secondaries, especially if you're going to be away. Try and keep the turn around time to two weeks or less.

What did those schools ask you to send via snail mail?

Keep in mind that you can pre-write almost 100% of your secondaries by looking at the school-specific threads from last year and figuring out what the questions are. They'll probably re-use them word for word. If not, easy enough to edit-- but if they're the same, lots of time and stress saved, not to mention quick turnaround.

For GW, the secondary was available to download as a PDF, but you still had to print and mail it in.

For Loyola, you completed an online form, but you still had to print and mail it in.

For Rush, you complete everything online but there are supplemental materials needed that you have to send by post (photograph, proof of citizenship, application fee, signed form attesting that everything you are submitting is accurate).

Thanks everyone! I guess the surest way to go about this would be to contact each school.
