I heard a rumor that Creighton requires its dental students to wear a dress shirt and tie every day. Is this correct? I don't really like relying on hearsay so I figured I would ask, but I would feel stupid calling Creighton to ask something like this.

If this is correct (or even if it isn't), are there any other schools that have a similar policy?

Most schools have a dress code. And do you really need to start a new thread everytime a thought crosses your head?

I applied to Creighton and heard that they have a dress code that enforces professional attire. As for a tie, I am not sure if that is entailed in that. From my experience interviewing, it seems like most schools require their students to dress at a somewhat professional level (ie no jeans) while others allow scrubs.

Yes, you are required to wear a shirt and tie to class everyday at Creighton.
But don't let that deter you. I was really excited to be accepted at CU and its a really solid school in a nice town.

ISU Steve,

As Billiken stated, there is a formal dress code. I am moving to NE and applying to Creighton this year and have received their University Bulletin in the mail. It is a helpful book for such questions which you should sign up to receive if you are planning on applying.

For males it is slacks, collared button down shirts, and neckties. Females are professional looking blouses or sweaters, dress slacks, culottes (??), skirts at or below the knee and appropriate hosiery. A clean clinic coat is required for lab and clinic and cannot be worn outside of the building.

Eh.....I don't know if I could stand to have to iron dress shirts every week day for 4 years and wear a tie. It would be just like being back in the military again (only with less saluting). I've heard good things about Creighton.....don't know if I will apply though.

Hey ISUsteve,

I noticed on your list of prospective schools you are considering Case Western. I think they are a nice school, but the tuition is around $60,000/yr. I was offered an interview there, but ended up not going because the more I thought that was too rich for my blood. Creighton is also a private school but only $30,000. From what I know Case is probobly a better school, but I don't think it is $30,000 a year better! That means Case would run you $120,000 more over the course of 4 years of D-school! Just something to think about.

EDIT: just one more thing to add. In general mid-western schools get no respect on a national level. For example no one on these forums talks about Nebraska or Iowa, but the fact is they both have been in the top ten for board scores for years. So the "reputations" of schools that people talk about here on SDN aren't always accurate.

Hey I go to creighton and yes you do have to wear a shirt and tie everyday

Seems like a dumb reason not to apply to a school.

That's not the reason I wouldn't apply.....just another negative for a school (screams excessive anal retentiveness). I just can't see myself being stuck in Nebraska for four years (but then again, I think I would prefer that over being stuck here in Indiana any longer). But like a couple of people have said....I have 2 years before I apply....we'll see what shakes out in the mean time.
