I am going through MATH DESTROYER--currently on test #5, and I'm having the hardest time getting through the problems in 45 minutes. I have seen a lot of people say that math destroyer is extremely similar to the real DAT, and this seriously worries me. I am ranging from ~50% right to ~85% on some tests. It is very inconsistent. How many times should I go through this book? I have my DAT in a month. D:

Also at this point, if I go through all the tests in the book again, I'm afraid I will have memorized the answers. So I'd just being memorizing the problem, not the method. If I timed myself, it would be distorted because I do recall the problems. Thank you for any help!

I only went through it once. After each test I would copy each problem down I missed and the solutions and I went over those in the days before my test. The math on my DAT was a lot easier than destroyer. I don't think I ever finished a destroyer in 45 min. It helped me bring my QR from a 15 to a 19, so overall I believe it is really helpful.

Take comments like "It is basically like the DAT" with a grain of salt. Nothing in Destroyer is even remotely close to the level of the exam. Destroyer is genuinely much more difficult! It'll help you prepare. That much is for sure, so just do your best. Review problems you couldn't complete/missed.

I'm going through MATH Destroyer for the 2nd time, and this time around i'm doing much better, and finishing the tests with about 5 mins left. The first time through was rough, and math has always been my weak point. Go over the answers you got wrong, learn how to approach them, and do them again. You'll get it!!

I just finished test number eight last night. I also have trouble finishing them in 45 minutes. I don't time myself while I'm taking them any more, because the real DAT is supposed to be much easier. I'm focused on solving the problems as quickly as I can while still getting the right answers. Try not to do them in 45 min, but just learn the approaches to the problems and go from there. No worries, you'll do great 🙂

I am halfway through the MATH Destroyer and I usually don't finish either. I usually have 6-8 remaining, but after the time is up I continue to do the remaining or skipped problems making sure I do the problems correctly and efficiently no matter how much time it takes. I then go back and redo the problems I didn't get correct and usually get them right with the extra time. I find that I score better when I take the extra time vs completing with 60% correct. Also, if I know I spent too much time on a problem I will usually rework it multiple times using the fastest solution so I remember it. When I do Math problems outside of Destroyer I usually average 24, so my approach has been working for me. You should also mentally remind yourself to work faster, I actually had the opposite effect in my PAT section, I was taking more time getting them all correct and completely missing the last section and getting 22s, after reminding myself to work faster I was able to get through the last section and now I don't score lower than 24. You should test yourself both ways and see what works for you.

Thank you so much for all the advice and replies! I usually know how to set up. I just can't finish in time, is all. So that's something that I hope will improve with practice. I've noticed that the easier problems are always near the end. (Not sure if it is really like this on DAT?) So I really need to get over my pride issues and move quickly through problems. Best of luck to everyone on your studies!

Well, your doing a lot better than I am! I'm not even timing myself and I got less than 50% on the first test. 🙁 I'm worried too! Some of the stuff I don't even remember ever seeing in any of my math classes! For anyone who is familiar with math destroyer, is sub 50% on the first test normal?

I don't know what to think and it's freaking me out bad, to the point where its hard to stay focused because it seems like I have such a long way to go before I'm ready to take the DAT.

Don't worry too much and stay focused! Going through MATH Destroyer the first time sucks, especially if it's been a while since you've been exposed to that sort of math. Killed me the first time through, but I read the answer explanations and learned how to approach the problems. The second time through, i'm doing MUCH better and finishing the tests with a few mins to spare. Keep at it!

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who is having as much trouble as I am. Originally I watched about half of chads QR videos, but after that first destroyer test I decided I'm going to finish them! That way I have seen more of the QR concepts more recently.

As for the reading the answer explanations, I have been doing that, some of them explain things clearly, others are a bit fuzzy in my opinion. That's basically the reason I'm going to be finishing chads QR videos. I was looking at some of the concepts on the video list and its things like absolute values, inequalities, stats, std deviation, and basically the whole latter half is the things I'm the most unfamiliar with because its been so long since I've had a math class.

Thanks for the reassurance! I plan to stick with it and study hard so I only have to go through the misery of DAT prep once!

I am the same way! Sometimes I have to stop studying QR with the Math Destroyer because it is so discouraging--I just want to quit! I just study biology or PAT to make me feel more confident, then run back to Math Destroyer for it to rip me a new one. hahaha But I am hoping it will all be worth it in the end. I just want at least a 20 in the QR section. Good luck studying!
