Question for BYU students

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Which BYU Bio classes helped you the most for the DAT? I've heard that Animal Diversity is a good one to take... Any other suggestions?

Animal Diversity will help - it will prepare you for the animal questions and for a little of the anatomy-type questions. Animal Diversity was one of my favorite classes. Physiology is another helpful course, but I'd assume you already plan on taking it before the DAT.

BIO 240 (molecular) and 360 (cell) are helpful before the DAT. Genetics could be helpful, but you could learn all the genetics you need for the DAT from your study materials.

If there is one course I wish I would have taken before the DAT, it would be Biochemistry. It gives you a good taste of a lot of important topics as well as an indepth look at glycolysis and the Krebs cycle. I think it would've helped a lot.

Any course will help, in reality, just pick one you think would be interesting and go for it.

Anatomy and Physiology will be the two most important classes for bio (bio 120 as well). bio 220 was gay. Neuro 205 was a beast of a class but I can honestly say I leanred more in that class then any other class. (There's only a few questions about Neuro on the DAT, and you can get the answers about them from physiology and anatomy)

Oh, and if you can remember High school biology that will help you with the evolution stuff. Some of the questions on the Bio section of the DAT were impossible... with teh broad range of questions on the DAT there will be a couple you'll just guess and move on.

As airsimon stated, the bio questions on the DAT are from a very wide range. I felt as though there wasnt one class in particular that helped. It seems as though each class (bio 120, 220, 340, 350, 360, 420, biochem, animal diversity, physiology, and anatomy) helped out equally. There were questions from each of those classes and if you havent taken any one of those then there will be questions you will have to guess on and move on. If you have the time, I would take all of those classes, and then take the DAT! Your bio score would be extremely high.

I remember when I took the DAT there were some plant physiology type questions that I remembered learning sometime in Bio 120/220 (I think, its been awhile) but couldn't quite remember during the test. 🙄

Physiology was probably the most helpful though.
G'luck!

As weird as it may seem, Biochemistry probably helped me out the most simply because it solidified a lot of what I knew about ochem so that would be my most highly recommended course to take.

As far as Bio courses, or courses that helped on the bio section of the DAT...Endocrinology, Bio 240, Bio 360, PDBIO 305, Bio 350 and Bio 420 were all useful to some extent. Good luck!:luck:
