I read on here somewhere that as an Ohio State vet student, you are able to get discounts on/and or free bags of dog food each month. I am applying there this cycle and will be bringing my 100+ pounds of dogs with me if I get in. My situation is this: I have recently adopted a dog who has some sensitive stomach issues/possible allergy issues. She's currently on Hill's I/D and doing ok, but I was thinking about trying to slowly switch her to a different food to see if it helps with her allergy problems. With the thought in mind that I will get in this cycle (and would like to take advantage of any cost-cutting I can while in school), I was wondering if anyone who currently attends OSU could tell me what discounts/freebies are offered on which brands. I'd like to find something that works well for both of her issues and be able to keep her on it. I'd be bummed out to find a food that works well for her and have it not be one of the discounted brands. Please and thank you!

Hill's: one free 20 lb. bag of dog food per month (or 10 lb. of cat food). You can order more (up to 60 lb total) for a very discounted rate.

Purina: one free bag/ case a month. You can get a big 30 or 40 lb. bag, which ever one is the biggest they carry. You can't order any additional discounted product. This goes away during the summer months.

Iams: Nothing free, but we get a discount.

Just to give you a more detailed idea:
The extra food from Hill's is $15 for a 35-40lb bag of food (depends on the type) or $10 for a 20ish lb bag.
The Iams/Eukanuba food can be purchased at the hospital- $10 to $12 for 20lbs of dog food.
Prescription diets require a DVM Rx/note.

If you have more questions I can dig up the food reps' info for you...
