I am shocked how much I like it. I came from med stuff in Boston and residency in SF Bay Area and thought I would hate it. Now I am one my one year fellowship.
It's different for sure. There is no traffic, everything is super close, people are friendly, everything is cheap (I got a parking ticket and it was 10 bucks lol). During the warm months (like 5 of them) everyday I would just golf and play basketball. I am in the best shape of my life by a mile. During winter, the ski slopes are like 30 minutes away. My friends and I get happy hour and hang out and I take the coach to Boston where I have friends there who house me when I want to party.
However I will say there are a few things that are different. First is that if you are single, it may be hard to met people here. Most people you meet are at the hospital, and you have limited interaction with graduates and undergraduates. It's almost all family and not many young people in your surroundings. You have Boston but that is 2 hours away on a good day. My Co Fellows are single and they have basically given up for this year haha. Second, you don't get some common things cities get. Like there is no apple store, no upscale mall.. Lastly, the cold weather may get to you if you are from a warm climate. I finally have accepted that I have to do things when it snows, but the first weekend it snowed, I didn't leave teh house lol.
