For those of you who interviewed at Grand Rapids:
did you notice the Stipend was different in two different places?
On the color sheet, the stipend was listed as $43,000 for PG-1
On the B&W sheet, the stipend was listed at $41,500 for PG-1.

I'm more curious than anything, because GR was a great program and I definitely intend to rank them high regardless. There was already a very accurate review in the review thread.

LovingItAll-

I'm glad to hear that you really liked our program. I couldn't agree more. It's a fantastic residency and city to live in. To answer your question...

STIPEND VACATION CONFERENCE TIME
PG-1 41,500 3 weeks
PG-2 42,500 3 weeks 1 week
PG-3 43,500 3 weeks 1 week

FYI: You also would have a week off during Christmas or New Years (not included in the vacation count)

for more information about our program and its benefits www.grmerc.net

P.M. me if you have any other questions. Good luck in your decision.

Lovingitall-
We just increased our PGY-1 salary to $43,000, plus $1000 for the orientation required at the end of June. We also shifted paychecks to come out at the beginning of the pay period rather than the end, so the interns don't have to work for a month before getting paid. I agree, salary should figure very little, if at all, in your rank list. More importantly, our cafeteria has a large assortment of delicious pies.

Nice try Flanny.

I'm watching you.

I rotated through the ED in GR as an intern, and did SICU with a few EM residents there as well. If you're applying, I will say that my experience was outstanding! Definately a cool group of people, the didactics were strong. Patients were complex and I got to do a ton as an intern (and off service at that being a transitional). The facilities are beautiful and the cafeteria rocks. I still miss the late nite fried food fest and the cookies. The attendings were extremely cool as well. My rent in Boston is about 3 times what it was in GR, and I lived at the Boardwalk, one of the nicer lofty type places downtown. Check it out for sure, I have nothing to gain on this review, I'm long gone from the area but it was good.
