I'm taking Step 2 CS in Houston in November. My test is at 8 am. I want to leave on a 5:30 p.m. flight the same day. Do you think this is manageable? I plan to leave directly from the test taking center. Does the test usually end right at 4, or does it run over? Also, will they help call you a taxi?

I took mine on the 20th at Houston. We were done at 3:40 and we were told this is the norm.

good luck

just read the part about the taxi...they have phones and phone books but doubt they actually make the call for you. because of the proximity to the airport, I imagine a cab could make it to the test center very quickly.

Are you taking luggage? I'm going to the LA test center in a few weeks and am planning to catch a plane at 6:30 but will have to go back to my hotel first to get my suitcase because I thought we were only given a cubby hole to store our stuff in at the testing center.

That's another question: will they hold a suitcase?

They won't hold your suitcase.

I just took CS today in houston, and got done about 3:15. They're very punctual, but rule-driven. You get an open cubby that measures about 12"x12" to put keys, cel phones, and stuff in, but there's no place for suitcases.

I screwed up and booked two nights at a hotel, and got a rental car.
In hindsight, I should've taken a cab to the hotel, stayed one night, took a cab to the test center, back to the hotel to get my suitcase, then cab'd it back to the a'port. Now, I'm hanging out at the hotel for an extra night, and having to pay for an extra car rental day, cuz I didn't know otherwise.

Oh well, at least that shizzle is over. CS is a monotonous bore.

Thanks for the heads up. I know I should be able to find this out somehow...but I'm not sure where to find the address of the test center in Houston. Mainly I want to know which airport to fly into and where to make a (cheap) hotel reservation. Thanks to anyone who knows!

You want to fly into Bush Intl. It's only a couple miles from the testing center.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express which is about a mile from the center. Around 100 bucks a night. There's probably a little cheaper, but it was between the airport and the testing center, right on the highway, and clean.

My recommendation is to fly in the evening prior, get a cab to the hotel, stay one night, get up, leave your luggage at the front desk, take a cab to the testing center, after the test, take the cab back to the hotel, grab your suitcase, jump back in the cab, haul azz to the airport and hop a flight home.

I stayed two nights, and rented a car. Way too expensive. The rental car alone since it counted as 2 days was about 150 bucks including all those stupid fees.

By getting a couple of cabs and staying just 1 night, I could've knocked 200+ dollars off easy.

I was just worried about the time frame (would the test get out on time, where would I leave luggage, how soon to get to the airport, etc.)

Really, it only took 30 minutes from the time I dropped off my rental car until I was sitting at the gate. Online check-in helps (which you can usually do from your hotel room the night before).

As long as your return flight is affer 6-7pm or so, you're probably good.

If you're in the afternoon session, try to fly in that morning, then leave the next.
