What do you like best/worst of your school? I have a interview there this friday and just wanted to get some inside information. Also, any tips would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

I guess theres not too many miami students on sdn

I am not a miami student but I am interviewing there for a residency spot; so most of what I know are clinical aspect of the school. From what I know, the hospital is pretty good with most (all?) subspecialty represented (you want this for med education). The hospital is a 1.5-2 tier program, a solid, good, program with lots of exposure; just take a look at its website, the hospital is huge (and yes, size matters). Other than that, location is superb.

Keep in mind, the medical school is not in the best part of town. Great program though.

I don't attend the school, but I interviewed last month and I was extremely impressed with the students. I was amazed at how friendly everyone is. I got their really early in the morning from my hotel, and Dr. Hinkley and a handfull of med students were already there to greet the interviewees. And random students kept stopping us and coming into the conference room throughout the day just to tell us how much they loved their school. Everyone I spoke with is really happy to be there. I don't know if it's because of Cane football or because of the proximity to South Beach or because Playboy voted UM med students as among the best looking students (a fellow interviewee told me), but everyone there has a lot of spirit and they are very extroverted. Oh and admissions office staff, esp. Dr. Hinkley, is really nice too. Dr. Hinkley spends the whole day with you and tells alot of funny stories.
I also like that all lectures can be viewed online, so if you miss one, it's okay. And like an above poster mentioned, the Jackson is huge and ranked in many ways. If you look at the most recent usnews rankings for hospitals, UM med is highly ranked in 9 specialties. And Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is 2nd only to Johns Hopkins. So if optho is your cup of tea, then you could probably get some great exposure and research opportunities. The medical center is also the 2nd busiest in the nation. It's like its' own little city, and it's packed with people and activity (altho the surrounding area isn't exactly nice). And I personally love Florida weather...the humidity and all.
To the OP, hope you did well on your interview. I haven't heard anything back from them yet. And BTW, I had a few interviews right after UM, and UM students definitely had the most school spirit and that says alot. (And the Playboy ranking is well-deserved 😉 )

I know it's a little late for a reply since you already interviewed, but anyway...

I LOVE UM's program. Don't get me wrong, it's a lot of work, but at least your surronded by cool people and living in a great place. The clinical experience is awesome and they pretty much get you started right away. The falculty are very approachable and willing to do whatever they can to help you gain the experiences you desire. The curriculum is set up so that you have ~a semester of basic science and then move to system modules. And studying for the boards is built into the second year curriculum.

Students are very supportive of each other and always finding ways to have fun.

Definitely give it some serious consideration.😉
