For those of you who are non-science majors...who did you ask?

I took most of the pre-reqs in first year so I doubt the profs remember me. I'm currently taking a chem course and plan to get a LOR from him.

Thanks.

I'm probably not much help... I completed 2 degrees a number of years ago and I recently took my science pre-reqs, that's how I got mine. In addition, I got one from my old boss that I worked with for 4 years.
Are you planning on taking any science classes this coming semester? That would be a great oppty. How about some upper div. class like biochem or physio or something of that nature? Good luck!

I was a psychology major so I got 2 from my psychology professors. I got another 2 from science professors I had. I got one from a dentist I worked for and another from the campus minister at my school who I also worked for.

I think you should go to those past science professors of yours and talk to them. You'd be surprised how many of them remember you.

I got:

One from a dentist that I shawdowed.
One from my Gen. Chem teacher.
One from my physiology teacher.
One from a non-science teacher.

I got one from my ochem and bio teacher and the third from a dentist. It helped that I talked to my teachers and used their office hours for questions, eventually they got to know me and what I wanted to do in the future.

Commitees are great - my school has one and they just wanted three lors and then a big essay and personal statement from me. They also had three people interview me and then from all this they sent out one big LOR that fills the requirements for most dental schools. Last year I was a history major so I had my history professor write me a great LOR. I got the other two from a boss and a dentist. I guess if you don't have a commitee this probably won't help.

My LOR's were as follows:

One from a biology professor
One from an organic chemistry professor
One from an liberal arts professor
One from a practicing dentist (who was also an anatomy instructor at my university)

I had 1 from my Genetics professor
I had 1 from my Biology 111/112 professor
I had 1 from my Cell bio and Comparative Anatomy Professor
I had 1 from my AFrican History Professor
I had 1 from my World Music Professor
I had 1 from my Inorganic Chemistry Professor
I had 1 from my Dentist I shadowed (Over 400 hours of shadowing)

Ya...I had a bunch; all of them were blended together into my committee letter. What helped me is I always took advantage of office hours and talked to professors. I wouldn't just go talk to them about school though; I would just ask them about their weekends and just talk like I would talk to a friend. In fact, some of my professors I can consider friends. They have given me such great advice, and even after I applied, I still pay them visits to say Hello. I also actually became great friends with my dentist. We often go out to eat and just hang out whenever I come home from school. Although I wasn't the strongest Biology major at my school, I got the highest recommendation, which I think only 2 others received out of our class of 20. I attribute this to the fact that I often communicated with my professors in formal and informal situations. Dentistry is a field that requires great people skills, and if you can show off those skills with your professors, then they will write you great recommendations.

😳

Yeah I was thinking of asking one from my 300 lvl chem and econ prof and one from a dentist I shadowed...However I'm having trouble with the second science prof...I only took chemistry since first year, do you think they'd mind if I asked another chem prof?

What if I handed in the 2nd science prof after the summer? Would that be too late if I wanted to apply early? Thanks for any input.
