My mother has been a medical biller for a long time, she is amazing at what she does. Last year she started her own medical billing business, but the main goal of the business wasn't to do the every day medical billing work. Working in the field for a very long time and taking over as manager for various practices she realized that every practice had aged claims, that were not being collected most of them being over 200k dollars. This happens because insurance companies deny claims most of the time for something that can be corrected relatively easily, or the office managers aren't fighting with the insurance companies to collect this money, either because they don't have time to do it. Physicians write off so much money every year without ever realizing it because they trust that their officer managers are taking care of it.

My mom would only collect a percent on back money she brought in, she offers free consultations, and even with all of that she can never get meetings to talk to physicians. My question to you is how does my mom(or me) get in contact with doctors to even do a free report on how much of unclaimed money you are missing? She has tried so hard to get meetings but it's always through the office managers, and they don't want my mom coming in and telling the doctors that they aren't collecting this money it makes them look bad, or they think that my mom is trying to take their jobs. My mom has one client that went from just doing aging to them hiring her full time, in one year has collected 150k more than the previous year. With their aged claims at 200k the previous year and is now 40k. Any advice?

Tell your mom to go to some of the big healthcare admin/practice management conferences. She should consider setting up a booth and shaking a lot of physician, and administrator hands. She should also consider marketing herself directly to physicians.

Your mother may need a partner who knows how to sell the business. Often times the "idea" person is not the best "business" person.

Good luck.
