I have practiced a few cases with the USMLEs note system (link below) and I noticed that you can add lines to order up to 8 tests. Is that right? I guess I have been accustomed to five lines with my school's OSCEs and that's what appears in First Aid, although the most recent versions were published before the recent note format change.

With more available lines should I be separating grouped tests to different lines? For example, First Aid will list several tests together on the same line like pap smear, cervical culture, and NG/CT probes.

Thanks for any input.

You dont have to throw the kitchen sink at every case and order every test imaginable...

But if you feel you have to order 8+ tests, it is fine to group tests together (ie KUB, Abdominal CT, abdominal ultrasound for imaging if you somehow think all 3 are simultaneously indicated). Remember that it is being graded by people, so it isnt like they wont see/understand what you wanted to order because you grouped it together.

I also got few questions for recent cs takers

1. while writing patient notes, can we copy and paste phrases from History and Physical exam part into the lines under each diagnosis?

2.what happens if time runs out before we submit the patient note? Will the system record whatever that is written or will it be deleted?

1. Yes

2. Yes it records everything as you type it.

This is way too much for that shyty test. I didnt even read a book for it, TBH. Once I passed my school's B-OSCE, I knew I was ready.

Just go in, smile, act confident and you will pass. it is that easy, even a cave man can do it
