Hey I am posting this for my friend.

He wants to know if he needs to report a citation on the AMCAS.
here is the situation:
4 years ago he was given a citation for trying to get into a bar underage (and I think with a fake ID)...He knows that the AMCAS only wants to know of felony and misdemeanors (which he has never had) but the thing is that when people run a background check on him it shows up.

Should he report this on the AMCAS? also what happen when a school runs a background check on him in the future?

Apparently I was incorrect. Go with the person who knows more than me.

Yep, you have to report any citations that show up on a background check or you may have an acceptance taken away. Better to be upfront that be accused of trying to conceal it.

I disagree. If AMCAS wanted applicants to report citations, the application would state that. If something wasn't requested on the application (citations) and it comes up on background check, you can't be accused of trying to conceal it. Furthermore, fake IDs to get into bars 😴 it is by definition something that grown-ups don't do and it shouldn't have a detrimental effect on the med student, others at the school, and society going forward (unless you are applying to med school as a 19 year old).

If everyone starts listing citations on their AMCAS then the whole system is going to bog down while adcoms plow through those applications separating the really bad from the merely juvenile.

I agree with LizzyM.

Additonally, if some sort of violation is not on your permanent record it won't come up in a background check. You can call the police dept. that issued a ticket and ask them if it goes on your permanent record.

P.S. ZuesOnRoids - I like your poem on MDApps - it's exactly how I felt. Congrats.
