hi, if anyone can help me with my question, thanks in advance.
" If you suspect your patient is a drug abuser. What would you do ? "

OK....you're brand new...

You are asking a very general question about a serious medical situation.

If you are suspecting yourself, a family member or friend of drug abuse..you need to seek guidance from a responsible person who can help beyond that of a public internet forum.

If it is your family member...you can contact you parents (if you are a child - minor or otherwise), other trusting family members, AlAnon, NarcAnon, etc...

Otherwise...you need to have a frank discussion with the individual who you are concerned about or someone who has significant influence with him/her...parent, medical provider, conselor....but not us here.

Best of luck!

hi, thanks for your help. But my question doesn't apply for my friend or my relatives, it is the question I got from my friend's interview for pharmacy school. "What can a pharmacist do, if he suspects his paitient is a drug abuser ?"

So.....share what discussion you had with your friend?

I will say...this is an unusual interview question...but, I'm curious what kind of discussion the two of you had.

Unfortunately....it still seems as though you are seeking medical advice which is not what this fourm is used for.

Yeah this question can be familiar in interview questions because its like any other question like "If u c ur friend cheating what would u do"

I am presently in Nursing school and what they tell us is to have a talk with the patient, You could also include the family member, but also u have to contact a social worker and direct him to someone more competent to help him for his case. (that is provide him with available resources) its his choice to stop, but u could definantely refuse to dispense more harmful substances to him.

Explain the risks of over using drugs. A patient has rights, you can only try to help.

Thanks everyone, my friend said similar things like your advice. The interviewer asked for more specific things that a pharmacist can do to help the paitient, and my friend got very confuse at this, so she didnt answer it directly to the point.
