question on DAT preparation material for Science section

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i can say that ive purchased ALL of the major prep materials: topscore, dat acheiver, all crack components, dat destroyer w/ organic odyssey, and the kaplan blue book. theyre all pretty much just good for diagnostic review to give you an idea how much you actually know. I wouldnt recommend using any of them as real practice material (except the PAT and MATH crack programs). My personal experience has been that the end-of-chapter questions in my textbooks have been far better for review (due to the much larger volume) and the obvious advantage of the actually review material is nice as well. i think the blue book is a good review for the general bio stuff but its pretty much worthless for statistics and trig for QR. the one thing i wouldnt recommend to ANYONE is the odyssey material. its good stuff but its not up to par with the price you pay for it. not even close.

ps - to justify why i dont think you should practice with these materials (excluding the exceptions already mentioned) is because of the false sense of confidence it will instill. You may think you know something because you can 'kind of answer it' in the review materials and then understand the answer explanation but in reality that isnt sufficient enough if you really want to do your absolute best. the number of questions is insufficient as well. after going through it once, you will have inflated confidence at its ease since everything is easier the second time around. you dont get that same false sense from end of chapter questions in textbooks because theres enough questions that you wont need to repeat them for sufficient practice.

Hello!

im studying for DAT and i was wondering

which preparation materials are good in preparing the science section.

for science, ive used 1)Kaplan blue book and its subject tests, 2)Barron's

book. and i know that those are not enough for me.

so i researched some materials, and it seems that my choices

are DAT destroyer or Top Score.

what do you suggest for studying Science section?

is there anything else other than Destroyer and Top Score.

Thank you, i greatly appreciate for your answer.

I would say to get both, Destroyer and Topscore.

I thought the kaplan book was fine for chemistry and organic chemistry, but not for biology. I would recommend getting either Cliff's AP biology or Schaum's Outline of Biology for review. As for DAT destroyer or Top score, I would also say get both. They are very different. Destroyer is more like a series of practice test questions with detailed answers to help you study, but you need to have already reviewed some to get the most out of this study tool. Top Score is a set of computerized practice tests. This will give you a good feel for what the exam is really like and help you find areas you need to study more.

Schaum's Outline of Biology
Cliff's AP Biology
DAT Destroyer
DAT topscore

If money is an issue: Kaplan for gchem and ochem and AP Cliffs for Bio.

Those are key for sciences. Get other stuff after knowing these COLD.

I am studying for the DAT now and for the sciences I have been using the Dat Destroyer with the Orgo Odyssey. For the PAT and Math I have been using Crack The DAT PAT, it supplies a vast amount of questions and gives practice tests. For extra bio material i have been using Cliffs Bio.
