I have been accepted to Iowa and will be receiving a $15,000/year scholarship. While I loved the school I am hesitant about the location. I didn't get to see any of Iowa City because I was in and out so quickly. People seemed happy there but Iowa just didn't look like that much was going on. What is it like to live there? Can you have fun if you aren't into the club/bar scene? I would appreciate some reassurance on this topic before I make my final decision. 😳

Wow! Congrats on Iowa! An awesome dental school and an awesome town. I went to undergrad there, and it was the best four yrs of my life. Yes, I can tell you that a lot of IC is th bar and club scene, but hands down, it is a classy one, and there are enough bars and clubs that you could find one where you could chill out or get crazy with your dent students. I think the current count is some 34 bars on campus. But, to answer your question, there are tons of other things to do besides drinking...IC is basically a small chicago...In fact, 60% of the undergrad population is now kids from the chicago suburbs...so obviously they are doing something right there

Good luck with your decision!

They have a really nice mall. It is the shopping hub of eastern iowa (okay that isn't really saying much.) I've got friends who go there and they concur with the other poster that the bar scene is quite good if that's what you're into. I've also got one buddy who is married and says that there is plenty to entertain a young couple. But none the less it is IOWA so if you are one of those types that just must have metropolis or die maybe you should go somewhere else. As for me I would love to get an acceptance there. The town is big enough to have shopping and theatres, restaraunts and entertainment without the smog, crime, or traffic of a big city.

Thanks, that's a little reassuring.
