How competitive was Anethesiology this year? was it more or less competitive than previous years? can someone please be ever so kind and explain it here briefly? Thank you so much sincerely.

Depends on where you hope to match right? Big names and big cities will always be more competitive. Programs told me there they not only had increased apps but also increased quality of apps. Check out the numbers on some of the guys on this board. Makes me look like a chump. However lots of folks without astronomical apps matched at solid places.
If you land yourself more than 10 interview invites then I'd say you will match. Must make sure to go to them and rank em.

Yup, if your goal is to match into anesthesia despite location there is a pretty good chance you will do so , which increases if you;re a US med grad with decent scores. However, I thought I was pretty competitive and got shot down hard at three top programs I thought I had a good chance at even though I ended up at a good program.
Listen to VentdependenT about the big cities and big programs being the most competitive. If you're a decent student, you'll definitely get a spot as long as you aren't picky about both reputation and location.
I considered myself an average to above average applicant. Step I 232, mostly high pass in third year, all honors fourth year, research and two abstracts in anesthesia. I applied throughout the Northeast and matched at Penn (my first choice). I also got a really good feeling from Hopkins.
For me, reputation was just slightly more important than location. I considered staying in New York, but realized that Iwould probably have to settle for a lesser reputation school (if I matched at all).... NY and CA can be really tough.
Also, don't be discouraged if you're shot down by programs.... it's really about making a good match of your personality/interests and the program's. Apply broadly and you WILL find a good school that likes you.
