Hi everyone, just have a quick question about taking physics online.

I'll be a sophomore this year at Rutgers University (NJ), and the way my schedule worked out, I couldn't do the traditional Bio/Chem freshman year deal, and I could only do Bio and finish my math requirements.

To make a long story short, I didn't have enough credits to sign up first for physics, so I'm forced to take it online. I'm planning to take physics online, chem and chem lab traditionally, and hopefully if I'm granted a spot, physics lab traditionally. By spring semester (next, next semester) I will have enough credits to have the first pick of classes, and will most definitely be taking Physics II + lab traditionally.

So my question basically boils down to this, if I'm taking physics I online, physics lab traditionally, and almost 99% taking physics II lab and class traditionally, will it be that big of a deal to a medical school if I take the physics online course?

Thanks in advance for your answers, been really stressful trying to figure all of this out.

Some schools will not accept online courses for pre-reqs. Check individual school websites for more info. You would not be able to apply to my school.

what he said. it also may depend on if it is a community college or not.

It could. check with the schools you are looking to apply to. otherwise, buy a subscription to MSAR online and look there. most of them should be filled out there.

I would not take pre-requisite courses online, chances are that credit won't be accepted at many schools.

Would it be a huge deal if you just didn't take physics next semester? You could take it in the spring, or junior year, or senior year.....no one said that there is a strict schedule you have to follow. Take this chance to take a fun course in a field totally outside of your usual courses. Get out of the science buildings! 🙂

Is the online physics offered via your university? Or are you going to a Phoenix type school for it?

The physics class is offered by my university

And yeah I don't see why it would be that big of a deal taking it a different year 🙂

Well since you're taking the online class at Rutgers and not some place like University of Phoenix, you might be fine. I'd check to see if it is listed as "online" on your official transcript. Ask your pre-health advisor if there is any indication on the transcript of the class being online, and if students have had a problem with it in the past. Honestly if you take the class at Rutgers and nothing on the transcript shows it as being online, then it shouldn't limit you at all.

This ^^^^^^^

Didn't LizzyM say that online classes taken at a traditional university do not appear as "online" on the AMCAS application, and thus medical schools wouldn't even know?

Edit: Yeah... what the above posters said.
