Hi all,
I'm about to submit my application for the upcoming cycle and had a few quick questions:

  1. Where should I list externships? I've seen some applicants include them under Extracurricular Activities, while others list them under Advanced Dental Education Programs since there's an option to mark them as externships there.
  2. If I have certifications (e.g., Botox, Invisalign), should I include those in that section as well?

Thanks!

Easy, Externships are "work experience" thats where I would list them in a CV. Don't list certifications unless is pertains to OMS residency. Botox and Invisalign, who certified you? Botox? really? leave that out. Tell me about your leadership experiences, research, other things that prove you have grit and can success in OMS residency.

I want you to highlight your externships and reduce the amount of outside of OMS training you have listed. This can be a turn off to PD's. Some believe that outside training means that they will have to break you of bad habits. Whether that is true or not does not matter. You are trying to present yourself as the best OMS candidate so externships trump other work experience unless it is an OMS internship, etc.
