With respect to derm path, oes one need to complete a fellowship to look at his or her own SCC/BCC Bx or excisions? I was talking to a friend who is going into derm and he tells me that in residency you get a lot of training looking at path under the scope and that a general derm doc could perform bx and tissue dx on the simpler cases. Is this true?

Yes it is possible to do this, some do read their own slides-no fellowship required. But most dermatologists will not.Quality of dermpath training can vary greatly by program. Many derms do not feel comfortable doing path, feel that the time would be more profitably spent seeing patients or do not want the potential malpractice risk.

Is this derm Fellowship after Family Practice residency.
Pllease let me know ifyou know any program
Thank you

I think it's available after a derm residency or a pathology residency. Not sure if it's possible after a FP residency. I could be wrong though

I've looked at a few of their websites and so far, they are all only for path and derm residents. The fellowship seems to spend a great deal of time at getting path residents up to speed in derm and vice versa. This probably isn't a practical arrangement for an FP resident, although I am certainly willing to admit that I may be wrong.

If you're really interested, I imagine the best thing to do would be to start calling PD's.

Dermatopathology is a one-year fellowsip that requires a prior residency in either Dermatology or Pathology.
