Question regarding transcript grades

Hey SDN! So, due to the new grade replacement policy that is happening for this upcoming cycle..I have a couple questions:

1. If my transcripts say I received a D and retook a class a couple of years later and received an A does it count as 4 semester units (x2) = 8 semester units for BOTH grades or will they take the average of both the A and D and count it as just 4 units?

2. For any W's or D's I have on my transcript it says 0 credit hours. Does that mean when I apply that it will get completely clear and it won't get counted against me when AACOMAS calculates my grades?

3. Do I still have a chance at D.O. schools this upcoming cycle with a 3.42 science + 3.46 cumulative GPA? I was at a 3.64 science + 3.64 cumulative GPA prior to the change. Taking my MCAT in March. Hoping to get into SOMA or WVSOM!! 🙂

1. It would be as if you took a class, got a D then took another class and got an A.
2. W's I know do not affect your GPA. Not sure about D's, but AACOMAS says to input grades as they appear on your transcript, so it could likely be 0.

They're gonna count it as 8 hours of the average between the two. I got a c in gen Chem 2, retook it for an A. So now I have 8 hours of B work.

The w won't get counted against you in your gpa it just might raise eyebrows is all.

You definitely have a chance, just apply broadly to be safe and send some apps to the newer schools with a good reputation. Both of your GPAs are solid. Hopefully you have clinical hours to go with them and maybe a do lor. Good luck on the mcat!

1. Yes both will be counted and weight equally (at least quantitatively.)
2. A W won't count as anything but a D will still be factored in quantitatively.

Thank you everyone! I have a DO, MD & three science professor letters (Biochemistry, General Chemistry, Nutrition). I have 1800+ hours of non-clinical volunteering (a year of service with a non-profit organization) and 800+ hours of clinical volunteering and paid. I took a break from my ED Scribe position to study for the MCAT. Also, taking Anatomy/Physiology 1+2 from January to July.
