So I'm a US IMG from Ross. Already applied to the 2012 match.

I've done BLUEBOOK & GREENBOOK rotations. Not all my cores are green and not all my electives are green. So a mixture.

I assumed I couldn't apply to Texas @ all for RESIDENCY. However, school officials and even the Texas Medical board said that I COULD apply and complete a residency in texas, but i would be unable to obtain a texas license until I passed their board certification. Honestly, I don't care about the license at all I just want to get into an anesthesia program and get out.

So I look on Texas Tech's website they say please don't apply if you don't meet the requirements for a Texas License. So I don't apply.

I'm sitting around not getting any interviews. So I say what the hell a fellow classmates get an invite from TT so I apply there. The next day boom, I get an interview from them.

Now I posed the same question to them, and they said you must follow our rules.

My question is can they alter the requirements like that and force me to decline their interview?

Any help would be appreciated.

If their interview invite is in writing you can always go interview, but it's very easy for them to not rank you. Just make sure interviewing there is worth your (and their) time and money.

if the texas medical board said that they will grant you a training license for residency after doing blue book rotations then I would get that in writing and bring it with you to the interview and show it to the PD, chair maybe get that letter in your application file. The residency program just wants you to be able to start on time if you match there, so a letter from the medical board will be good enough for them. However, if the medical board says no you can't get a training license then don't bother going.

I know a few people that went to medical schools that were not approved to get a license in NY, but they applied and got interviews, but it was pointless for them to go and once they realized that they canceled the interview.

Being granted an interview doesn't mean they looked into great detail of where you did you rotations. You have to do the work and find out where you can get a training license and apply appropriately.

as for the lack of invites it's still early, I think I got my first invite in the first week of Oct.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the feedback. Glad to know this isn't a first time occurrence, and good to know about the early Oct. first interview situation for you.

Thanks again.
