Sorry folks for the shocking headline, quite amusing isn't it? Well I have a somewhat serious question...I am applying this May to dental school and am a little worried about the DAT part. I haven't had time at all this semester to really buckle down and study for it. Atleast not as much time as I would like. This is all because of my schedule and upper level chemistry classes I'm taking this semester (biochem major). I was going to do summer classes this summer, but I'm thinking maybe I really should study for the DAT. I did Kaplan in February and am averaging around a 16 AA (I know I could bring this up). I know this test is one of the biggest ones of my life...but then again...my semesters will be rather full if I decide not to take summer classes (full for next fall...and I may not be able to graduate until the summer). What do you think I should do? I'm leaning towards studying really hard for this PAT, and not doing summer classes...in need of much advice...thanks.

If you're committed then its more than feasible to peform well on your classes and do well on the DAT's. I'll say it again..the test is not out to get you. If you put in the time..and remain discplined and don't gloss over topics simply because you feel "hey..this will never be on the actual test" then you'll be alright.
For some tips I suggest using Kaplans fat book for organic and general chem. For bio use kaplan but also try to make time for Schaums. And for PAT just practise over and over..and time yourself! Reading I have to say...try not to spend too much time on that. I find that either you have it or you don't..spending hours and hours reading articles in journals won't do much except waste valuable study time that you need for the sciences. good luck sir

I agree with you, I would spend the time in the summer studying for the DAT and doing very well. It sounds like it will be stressful next semester, but at least you'll have "the biggest test" out of the way and believe me, you'll be breathing a sigh of relief to have it done.
Good luck and hope it works out for you.

If you have already done some preparation, you should be able to put in a few weeks in early summer and be ready for the DAT. I scored 16-18 on most of the practice tests and was around 20's on the real thing, because I think the real DAT is a bit easier than the practice tests.

Since the DAT is offered any day of the year I would plan on studying over the summer until you feel prepared and then take the test. If you need the full three months thats ok b/c you have the time. If you only need a month GREAT! You can take two summer school sessions after to take the test. The test is difficult if you have not put in the study time. Knowing how to take the test is just as important as knowing the material. Make sure you extend your Kaplan membership (free of charge) so that you will still have access to their material.
