I recently went on an interview at my first choice school. Is it too presumptuous to write a letter thanking them for the interview before the committee meets to decide whether they accept me? My MCATS weren't so hot, so the fact I got an interview at my first choice school is a blessing. But I don't want to be an obvious suck up-- I know some schools hate that. Does anyone have any suggestions??

Do you have specific things that you want to say that impacted your decision as a result of the interview?

Why not just right a letter of intent and let them know that you have every intention of coming to their school. I made it really clear to the school that I wanted to attend even before I interviewed. Last summer, I met with an admission's rep and I did an informal tour of the school. I also kept in touch with that same person over the course of a few months. I think schools want students that truly want to be there. So, maybe a letter expressing to them in the most sincere way possible that they are in fact the school you want to attend; arguably, the only school you want to atten.

Hopefully MaineDocToBe is right, I wrote a "letter of interest" to my top school (and nobody else).

Surely you can thank them for the interview, just remember the KISS principle when writing it. (Keep It Simple, Stupid)

I would write the letter telling them thanks for the interview and that day has confirmed in your head that their school is your first choice. Something about how impressed you were with ....(fill in the blank)

Even if your MCAT is low, if you have a great overall application you should be ok. Of course that is depending on how low your MCAT is, but it is a good thing that you were invited for an interview, so it is high enough for them to consider you for a spot. Good luck.

I was told that one you should always just thank the director of admissions for inviting you for an interview. If something happened during the course of the day that made a deep "first" impression, mention that. Also, if a student gave you a tour, mention that you enjoyed the time spent with them and their honest feedback about the school.

It's only polite to do so, or so I feel. I dont think its being a suck up. I guess, it depends on what you write. But KISS is def a strategy to apply.

i was told to thank the interviewer(s)
but either way; its common courtesy and everyone should do it because i think its become "the norm"

i wrote one for comp after my interview and got in
and i didn't get around to witing one for azcom
it took twice as long for azcom to get back to me but i got in at the end

don't know if the letter made a huge difference but i don't think it comes off as "sucking up" as long as you don't write it in that way
