Alrighty, so I'm a sophomore. I've got at least 2, probably 3 years until I start applying to dental schools.

I've got an amazing professor this semester, and even though we've only had 3 weeks of classes, we've gotten along really well, and I think that by the time the class is over, she'd be able to write a great LOR for me.

I'm just wondering when I should get the LOR from her. Should I go ahead and ask for it at the end of this semester while my professor still remembers me? Do dental schools not like 3 year old recommendations? I just figured it would be better to get the LOR now rather than to come back to my professor 3 years from now and ask for a recommendation when she may or may not remember specifics about me in order to write a good LOR.

Thanks for the input.

I would like to say go ahead and get it now. Just make sure your professor is aware of whats going on, and when you are planning on applying. Also, make an AADSAS account, and print out a matching form (you will have to print another one out when you are applying, but at least you will have the profs contact info).

Hmm... lets see... I wish I were to get my LOR's from my professors during the same semester... When I actually went, none of them really knew me since it was such a big school.

I will be applying in the spring, should I get letters of rec now? Or when? (sorry to hijack your thread but I think you got a long way before you should ask for them, im sure your professor will still remember you)

Honestly, I don't think she will. I go to a huge school, and this professor is one of the most loved professors in the department. Tons of students go talk to her just because she's an amazing person, so I'm not sure she'd be able to remember me after 3 years.

Damn

I emailed a professor I had freshman year (im a senior now and she goes, "ofcourse I remember you")

I suggest you go to her and say:

"So I am an aspiring dentist and I was hoping possibily in the future if you are comfortable with writing me a letter of recommendation to dental school" Make sure you ace the class though! Good luck

Can anyone add to this post? When is a good time to ask for LORs?
