Hi, there. I've done quite a bit of research into the DO application process already, and I know I'm fairly competitive, so I'll spare you all the, "What are my chances?" gig. 😀
I know that it is pretty much necessary to have a recommendation from a DO or from an MD for the application process. I know it would be technically better to have a DO write a letter, but I know a MD (internal medicine, military) really well; I've known him for the past 10 years. I'd say, he'd be able to write me an excellent recommendation letter in strong support of my candidacy. On the other hand, as a staff member of the hospital, he has a number of DO FP residents working with him. I could obtain a recommendation from one of them, too, but it would not be as strong for obvious reasons. I'm going to shadow some of the DO's at the hospital for sure, but which recommendation would be better to use for the DO application process?
I appreciate your advice. Thanks. 🙂
