I have a question, if you fail USMLE once and re-take, do they consider previous test score? is it better to delay the test to aim for higher score or passing, or can I take it as practice test and re-take?
thanks,

What's your school's policy about retake? If you fail step I twice, many schools will force you to withdraw.

I know i'm just an MS0 but i do have experience with this question.
They do recieve and consider previous test faliure.
I say faliure because so long as you recieve a passing score, you are not allowed to take the exam again (at least thats how it was a few years ago).

So even if you get a low pass, thats what you will apply for residency with and you wont be able to try for a better score. Someone correct me please if this has changed.

Those who fail and have to retake are also at a disadvantage compared to those that pass the first time around. Of course if you blow it out of the water the second time, that will help. You would be asked about the first failure regardless though.

I think some schools will force you to wait a year after the second fail to take a prep course for the 3rd try. After the third time, you are banned and kicked out of school. Same for step 2
