Hello everyone I'm a newcomer to this forum. I am a international student

starting columbia dental school this coming august. If I want to work as a

dentist in the States after graduation what do I need to do? Are there any

restriction against international students from practicing in the States? I've

heard from an aquaintace that although I won't be allowed to start or work in

a practice in the state of new york I could work at a neighboring state such

as new jersey as long as i am able to find an employer willing to sponsor a

work visa. Is this true? And also will I be discriminated against citizens when

I apply for specialty or general practice residency in the future?

sorry for so many questions but I would greatly appreciate your info..

thanks

hey n,
congrats on ur acceptance to columbia.
after u complete ur dds program u will be eligible to give the regional boards .as far as i know there r 4 regional boards in the US. NERB,SERB,CRTS AND WRTS.i dont know why u said that u wont be eligible to practice in the state of ny .u wont be able to practice in a particular state only if they specify that only citizens and/or green card holders r eligible to practice in that particular state and there r a few states like that .(i am not too sure which ones r those )
if u r on f-1 rt now,yes u will need ur employer to sponser u an h1 visa to be eligible to work
and if u have good scores and resume and an ivy league school i dont think u should have any problem in getting into specialty or residency of ur choice.
hope that helps...

can u tell me abt columbia's selection process, their interview and practical exam.how difficult is it getting into that school?also wat stats do they generally look for......
thanks.
