My dad is a medical malpractice attorney (I know, I know) and I have been working for his law firm doing research on medical procedures, protocols, etc. this summer. This has been a very educational experience for me, and is obviously medically related, so I am tempted to include it on AMCAS. However, for obvious reasons I am hesitating to do so. Also, I have only been doing the research for about 2 months, and while I am technically employed by the law firm, it IS my dad's law firm... so yes or no?

Medical schools can look highly on something like this

Good family values pretty much. You work side by side with your dad and want to help out his practice.

Obviously, if you are spending a significant amount of time over an entire summer, it does help explain how you are spending your time and is important from that perspective. Furthermore, when asked if you considered other professions before deciding on medicine, you can talk about your experience in a law practice and why medicine is your choice.

This is NOT a questionable EC. Medical malpractice is part of the game and smart doctors understand that it is necessary to prevent incompetent or negligent doctors from running amok. If anything it will provide a great interview topic and could help you if you come across as knowledgeable and honest about the situation.

Now if you were part of the KKK or in an anti Gay-rights group or a dog fighting ring...now those would be questionable EC's and I would strongly consider not putting them on your app....

Your opening post mentioned the word "research" twice, so I just want to point out that this is not considered "research" for AMCAS purposes. It's an interesting EC though

Just don't mention how you grounded a case that stripped 3 physicians of their licenses 😛 kidding

INCLUDE! I don't think it will hurt, it may or may not help. But I think some medical schools would like to see this.
