Hello!

I'm a junior student (Spring semester). I'm taking the DAT within the next few months and also will be applying early May (2004).

When should I set up an account on AADSAS? Can I setup an account now, and update it constantly throughout this semester?

Also, I would like to prepare for the personal essay. By setting up the account, can I start writing my essay NOW?

I would like to get my AADSAS up and rolling and apply as early as possible.

No, you can't set up an account for the next application cycle yet. I think this past year we couldn't do it until the beginning of June. (Texas schools are different if you happen to be in that state...they do it earlier through their own system..only for instate though) What you CAN do though is to register for the current application cycle and fill in all the sections and print it off for your records. When they change to the next cycle, you can just copy what you've already done. The essay will probably be the same too (i'm guessing) so go ahead and write that. I also can't stress enough to go ahead and have all of your recommendation letters lined up. I'd say to ask profs/dentists you've shadowed for, etc. See if your pre-health science advisor has a generic form they can use and get some. Give this to the people writing the LOR's and include a self-addressed envelope to the pre-health dept. Also, I'd include a resume and/or maybe a copy of the dental essay with it so they'll have it as reference. Your pre-health advisor can mail the letters out to the schools you apply to. Most people, I'm assuming but may be wrong, sent out more than 3 LOR's. AADSAS could only accomodate 3 letters this past year, so my pre-health advisor sent them all to the various schools for me. Anyways...my $.02 worth. Good luck...ask anymore questions if you have any!

Great advice, zimaad.
Except, AADSAS can store as many as 5 LOR.
Please keep in mind that it takes about 3-4 weeks for them to make copy and send them out though.
You should check again next year if the number of LOR increases or not. Also, more LOR dont usually mean that you are a better candidate.

Hehe, you are early. I didnt even fiish my app until late nov. I just needed to type it in. I wrote my essays back in Sept. You dont need to be registered with adea to start the ground work...getting letters of rec., writing your personal statement, getting a transcript, preparing a list of all jobs/activities that you did, and mostly figuring which schools to apply to, is all you need. The rest is just entry (I hated that, what a stinking tedious process.)

UFStudent,

With the way the AADSAS operates, I would send your stuff in right now. By the time you start in about two years, they may have all of your information together to send to the schools. They are horrible. I sent my app. and everything in by June 20 and they are still fumbling with my &%*#. They drive me absolutely nuts.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that yes, you will be early, but that is definitely the right way to go. Expect many delays and many phone calls to make sure they are doing it right. Because you will have to hold their hand as you go. Good luck.
