questions about chances

I have a BS Biochem and minor in Psy from UCSD with a GPA around and a science GPA around ..........right now im finishing my MPH from Loma Linda University with a 3.6 GPA....i will take the MCATS in AUG (no time for april to study) what do you guys think ?....will the aug mcat decrease my chances, should i wait until april next year, I also have the option of doing some extra grad work in science (post-bac)should i do that?...thanks

I took the August MCAT's. It gave me the entire summer to study. While I waited for my MCAT scores, I filled out the AACOMAS application on line and I also had the secondary application from LECOM website filled out. Once my scores arrived I filled in the data and electronically submitted the application. Two weeks later I sent the secondary application to LECOM. This was after a campus open house which I attended. I got an interview over Winter break and was accepted Jan 29. I think that it depends on where you are applying. Many schools hold interviews throughout the year. Some schools look at their waiting lists from the previous year and call people back for interviews prior to rec'ving a new batch in October. Doing your homework will get you the interview.

It depends on how well you are doing in practice exams. If you are doing well, then go for it, otherwise you might get "out of condition" if you have been training all along for the exam. However, if you are not doing that well on practice, then it may be better to wait. The reason I say this is because there is a penalty for taking the mcat too many times. It is better to score well the first time you take it. You can take it a second time, but a third sitting raises red flags on your application (especially if there is not a significant improvement).
