A mixed practice vet called me back and said that I could definetly volunteer and eventually I would be put in a paid position. As I have said in another thread, I did a trial work interview for another clinic and they said they would call me next week regarding hours but I am not sure I got the job. On top of that, I got a third call today from another vet. It seems to always happen: I hand out resumes, receive nothing for a month, then I get several calls all the same day. I told them I would give them a call back tommorow. I am not sure if I should be honest with them and say I have a few other vets calling me as well or not. I dont have to get paid, so I think I should obviously pursue the mixed practice vet as I dont have any vet experience at all.

Anyways I had a few questions regarding mixed practice experience:

-Do I just write down how long I spend on large animals/small animals each day?
-I shadowed a vet last month and they would not pursue shadowing for more then a few days. I accumulated 15 hours and would never ask them for a recommendation letter. Can I still put that down on my vet application (not applying to cornell)? Basically, can you write down you have hours at a vet you were at for a short time? Is there a certain number of hours that it would be inappropriate to put down on your application (like under 20 or something)?
-Lets say you worked with a vet for a while and then moved or something and had to stop working for them but were not applying to vet school for another year. Would you just say before you left that next year you will get a hold of them and could you write me a recommendation? I would feel odd asking a vet "remember me its been a year but I am applying now" type deal.

Thank you

Yup.

Well this isn't exactly the same thing but kind of relevant. At the time when I started shadowing an equine vet it was about oooh...a week before the VMCAS was due. I only had about 20 hours of experience at that point so I put down that I had 20 hours currently, but was planning to keep on working with that same vet in the future. Never had anyone question it. And besides, experience is experience.
