I had a few questions for you pediatric hospitalists out there.
Do you enjoy the work? What is your schedule like? Is this a long term plan for you? What is your practice group like? Do you feel well compensated? Does hospitalist work count as "primary care" as in eligible for primary care scholarships for medical school?

Thank you so much!

My wife is a hospitalist, as are a few of my previous classmates. They mostly love the work. Every contract and workload differs, but in general the expectation is to do 12-15 shifts a month and be completely 'off' in between (aside from some admin stuff). Compensation is pretty decent (again, depending on where you are). There are both academic and private options out there. Long term depends on you. Some people plan to do it forever, some go into admin. Options are pretty open.

As to whether it couts for a primary care loan repayment or scholarship, I don't know.

Thanks!
Would you mind elaborating on what comprises 12-15 shifts per month? Is that 12-15 "7 am-7 pms" or is it variable?

It's going to be variable and depend on the group setup. 12 hour shifts are common, but you could find yourself doing 24 hour shifts too. If it's a smaller unit with less throughput it's not so bad.
