When I look at Tuft's class of 2022 fast facts, around half of the students that were accepted into the class have a masters degree. Any current TSDM students/faculties know whether if Tufts prefers students with a masters degree?

In terms of statistics, I’d say so. If you have a masters degree, you’re pretty much competing with other students with masters degrees compared to applicants without one. There’s probably a lot less applicants without a masters degree

Really? That's surprising. I thought a majority of dental school applicants only have BA/BS when they apply for dental school... That's interesting info.

I worded that completely wrong. I meant to say a lot more are without a masters degree meaning your chances are more likely to be better with a masters degree at Tufts

Hello, Tufts D23 here! The same is true for my class, with almost half of us (including myself) having an M.S. degree. However, there are also many of my classmates who came straight from undergrad and quite a few people who took a gap year and worked as a dental assistant, etc. So to answer your question, I do not think they prefer M.S. degree students per se. I believe that TUSDM looks closely at the experience that each applicant has, whether it be from undergrad, a graduate program, or from a dental office - and how the applicant's background will positively contribute to the class dynamic and success.

Ah, thanks for the clarification.

Oh ok! Did you end up doing a masters program because you wanted to improve yourself as an applicant? Or did you just really want an M.S. degree?

Can confirm. Tufts '21 here, and there isn't a preference so much as they have a lot of students who needed masters to bolster their academics who were then accepted. If you have the academics already, then the masters isn't required.
