Hi, I've been posting a bit and reading a lot from these forums. I'm interested in pharmacy, and have a few questions to ask

1. What first sparked your interest in pharmacy? Was it a recent or later realization?

2. What were your majors? How difficult were your classes? Is the workload manageable?

3. Is it possible to study the prereqs for pharmacy and double major at the same time? Do pharmacy schools prefer science majors over other majors?

That's all for now, thanks for answering

My interest began when i tried out other science fields and realized they weren't what I wanted for my career. Also when i went to the pre pharmacy
club and joined at my school I realized the various opportunities available in the field and found that attractive.

My major is Biochemistry. Minor in Psychology. The classes (for biochem) are very difficult but manageable. Competitive especially at a big research university like UCSD.

You can definetly double major if you plan ahead. I think pharmacy schools prefer science majors because science majors take courses like physiology, microbiology, immunology that are very important to have a basic understanding in for pharmacy school. I think if you are not a science major, its still ok, as along as you do all the science pre requisites for the school you want to apply to. Ultimately, that will give you the background you need to be successful anyway.

1. my mom's a pharmacist so blah blah blah

2. i was a chem major. i didn't finish a degree and had no intention of doing it unless it was absolutely necessary. classes were easy for me. the workload is very managable or i for one wouldn't be here. i did do some summers to lighten the load during the school year (i took organic chem in the summer what ever you can do to improve GPA).

3. i would guess they prefer a science major though i was told during orentation that med schools were now looking at other BA majors b/c it showed diversity. FYI..... i would recommend if you decide to go to pharmacy school not to double major but to work on your extracurriculars. be a leader in organizations... volunteer for a charity.... work in a pharmacy.. those will help you more than a second major.

Hi!

Does volunteering at American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, and The Student Doctor Network(SDN-member) count as Extracurricular Activities?, I was thinking to start volunteering at American Heart, Cancer, and Red Cross, since they are healthcare related. I am also currently volunteering at 2 local hospitals in Pharmacy.

Those organizations are highly respected, and yes, those would count for volunteer activities. If you aren't already involved in extracurriculars at school, however, I would put more focus into that since you are currently volunteering at two pharmacies.

I'm not sure that "SDN member" would count, though.

I did like the golden key honor society and like the biology club, i was also in a sorority (waits for stones to be thrown), i was on the forensics team (speech compititions) blah blah blah. i honestly can't remember everything right now... i would definitely volunteer at one place (don't spread yourself too thin) and i would get involved on campus if possible. if there is nothing available on your campus then get with a professor and start something. Then you would have "founded first biology/chemistry club on campus"
