Are shelf exams required for courses there?
Pass/Fail for first two years?
How do you feel about anatomy being in 2nd year?
Good/bad tutoring, course notes/old exams, online resources?
Are lectures required to be attended?

Based on these I will have to decide whether to go there or not.
Thanks for your precious time.

you're not getting any responses because 1) we just went thru finals week and 2) we're done with finals and are playing 😀

yes, shelfs are required for rotations.
p/f first quarter, h/p/f remainder.
no comment.
tutors know their stuff. course notes given. old exams usually given.
lectures are supposed to be mandatory, but they don't take roll 🙄

"based on these i will have to decide whether to go there or not"..... 🙄

-Wow, so no shelf exams for the first two years?! Great!
-No roll calls. Does that mean one could not attend lectures with no penalty? I hope so.
-H/p/f for the rest 🙁 So the rumor that people compete for that top 10% spots thus creating a competitive atmosphere is true? Although those who care less about honor would not be affected.

I hope you all did well on your finals!

Any advice on housings? Where are most of the classmates residing? On-campus or out? And how is the on-campus apartments? What do you suggest is the best for price and quality and location (proximity to school)? I really appreciate your inputs. I will be seeing you all in few months.

-correct me if i'm wrong (and i may very well be), but i thought "shelf exam" directly related to clinical rotations only.
-i'm not endorsing breaking school regulations, but a student could theoretically not attend 95% of classes with no repercussions. 😴
-the M1s have no real experience with the h/p/f system yet. previous years have related that there will always be a certain group of students that will kick it up a notch to get those Hs. intuition insists that these types exist at every school in the country (except maybe Yale) 😛

-if you are accepted, are even remotely considering coming to ucsd, and want to live in ucsd-owned housing, i urge you to sign up for it IMMEDIATELY. warren is only $400/mo, all util included, and on-campus if you like to wake up and be where you need to be. the draw back is having to purchase a parking pass if you have a car, and being on-campus a lot. i've heard Mesa South are great value ($400-700/mo), much nicer and larger than warren, no parking pass required, and free ucsd shuttles run to take you to campus throughout the day and evening. some live even further away, beyond the reach of the free shuttles or in different neighborhoods of the city (e.g. hillcrest, downtown). by and large, the vast majority of med students live off-campus but in la jolla. it's all a matter of personal preference (and some affordability).

congrats. 👍 keep working on those plurals.

Which is cheaper? On or Off-campus?
Thanks 👍

if you can find something cheaper than $400/mo in la jolla, then your application's extracurricular activity must have been olympic gold medal bargain hunting.

Yeah, I checked that $400 Single Grad dorm thing, but I only get a room (9x11) and must share bathrooms and kitchens and all with 4 others. I plan to have my own place like a studio or 1 bedroom which runs $570-670. Do you think I can get an off-campus studio/1bed with that price range around Pacific beach or near campus? Or is it that you just can't beat any on-campus deals? Where do you live and how much are you paying?

Thanks!
