I found that some answers from pilot exams are not correct.
I have still 2 questions that I think answers are wrong. Could you help me to confirm correct answers?
Thanks!

209. Protein and RNA synthesis occur in each of the following phases of cell cycle except one. which one is this exception?
a. G0
b.G1
C.S
D. G2
E. M

The answere was M but I think it's G0, which is resting stage.

359. A dietary iodine deficency will increase the secretion of which of the following?
A. Thyroxine
B. Thyroglobulin
C.Triiodotyronine
D. Thyroid stimulation hormone

The answer was B but I think D is correct.

The answer is right and here is why. Thyroglobulin is uniodinated, when you add iodine then thats when it becomes t3 or t4. When you have no iodine to couple with thyroglobulin then it just accumulates in the follicles making more and more. The thyroid gland gets larger and larger=goiter. I am not sure what the specific feedback mechanism is and could see how you think TSH is the right answer and it could be a right answer. However, Thyroglobulin is right also.

He's right. We had a lecture on it in histology when I was in undergrad. Fortunately, I remember 😀

you could be right on the second one. I just got this from emedicine.com

When dietary iodine intake is inadequate for thyroid hormone synthesis, the serum T4 level initially falls and a number of processes ensue to restore adequate thyroid hormone production. The pituitary gland senses low levels of circulating T4 and releases more TSH. TSH stimulates the growth and metabolic activity of thyroid follicular cells. TSH stimulates each cell to increase iodine uptake and thyroid hormone synthesis and secretion. Increased TSH levels and reduction of iodine stores within the thyroid result in increased T3 production relative to T4 production

M is the correct answer. Remember, DNA synthesis as well as protein syntehsis and cytoplasmic organelle synthesis all occur during interphase (G and S phases), afterall, that is how the cell grows.

No synthesis of any type occurs during the M phase. It isn't possible for any synthesis to be occuring because the cell is undergoing mitosis.

By the way, I believe you are correct about G0 not being a synthesis stage, but G0 technically isn't part of the cell cycle (just interphase and M phase). For example, cells in G0 enter the cell cycle at G1.

In addition to this, many neural cells are also considered to be part of the G0 phase when they mature to a certain level. These cells, however, do undergo RNA synthesis to make various proteins (NT, etc...) that the cell body stores and delivers to the axon terminus
