Hey guys,
I am just wondering if i should include playing piano as one of my EC. I played piano when I was a kid for almost ten years and I got some certificates for that. But I quit after my junior year in high school. Should I include that or not?

Another thing is I am in the honors program in my school and I am planning to get an honor destination by the time I graduate. But certainly when I am applying to medical school, I do not graduate yet. So how should I include the information that I am going to get a destination in the application?

The final question would be could I update my EC after the end of submission date, which is around november?

Thank you so much!!!!!! Glad some cool kids would give me the answers!!

(1) You can put playing piano as a hobby if you still play at times.
(2) You can put "honors program" as an award/recognition kind of deal and include the whole destination thing in the description.
(3) You can certainly send schools updates; they like those.

On a side note... are you applying for this cycle? As in you have not yet submitted your primary? Or are you just curious about the following year?

Thanks for your quick reply!!
Yea...I am not starting my application this year but next year. I want to get into the med school in 2014.
So is there an individual column for hobby from EC in the application?
And even though I did not get the destination yet, I can still include the destination I planned to get in the application?

The "Experience" section has a pull down menu to label each entry (you can make up to 15 entries). Hobbies/Advocations is one of the categories and Artistic Endeavors is another that could work for you. There is a label for Honors and Awards that could be used for your honors program. If individual classes are listed on your transcript as "honors" classes, then AMCAS will indicate those on the transcript section of your application. It is also possible that your advisor/committee letter will give details of that program in the LOR.

If you are going to list it, be ready to back it up. There is certainly a possibility that your interviewer could ask for a demonstration (though I am sure this is rare) so be ready to back it up. If you are confident in your abilities, no reason not to list it, it could help. :luck:

I listed speaking Spanish on my application and my interviewer asked me to translate a few things. When I asked if he spoke Spanish after I finished he said no. He just wanted to hear me say some things in another language.

If it is on your application, it is free game. I am sure there is probably a piano somewhere that could be accessed so only list it if you know you can rock (or classical) out.
