So I am pretty lost on anything regarding loans and I was just wondering if anyone could help.

I called the financial aid lady at the school that I submitted my first deposit to but she was on vacation and so I spoke with someone else and I'm not quite sure if she knew what she was talking about so I was wondering if any of you could help before I call back.

First of all, is financial aid available for dental schools? Financial aid as in gift aid that I don't have to repay.

When should I apply for loans and how do I apply? Do I apply simply by filling out FAFSA? Am I suppose to apply for loans every year?

If I start filling out FAFSA in January and get accepted into my top choice school after January, can I still add the school onto my application at a later time?

When my loan is disbursed to me, will interest start accruing only on how much I use at a time or for the whole amount that I take out?

Thanks 🙂

Financial aid .. (as in loans) are available for every school. Grants and scholarships however, vary by university.

You will apply through FAFSA, but your financial aid counselor will be sending you stuff when the time comes. You should add any school that you think you will be attending to your FAFSA, so yes add the other one because each school has a different deadline and there's no harm in adding too many schools.

And yes, your interest will start accuring on the whole amount from what you take out for the semester (student loan aid is dispersed one semester at a time)

Financial aid you don't have to repay? Other then scholarships and military/NHSC, not really. Everything is pretty much loans or you pay on your own.

You fill out a FAFSA for your loans. Yes you'll have to do it every year. You can do it on January 1 but some people tend to wait until they're done with their taxes. If you do it on January 1, you have to update them with your tax info later. You also might want to wait to do it later since you have a better idea of where you would go. When you fill out the FAFSA, you can put down multiple schools if you don't know where you're going yet for sure. It's better to cover all your bases. Then the school contacts you later about the loan and you go from there.
