One of my friends from residency is finishing up his Child fellowship and applying for jobs in California. He has his first interview next week at a community clinic close to home and doesn't really know what he should be asking? Does anyone have any tips that would be relevant?

I am doing part time locums work right now so I don't have any experience either. I know for residency there were different questions to ask but no one really prepares you for jobs. Any advice would be helpful to ask/look for in any job interview.

Thanks!

How long for intakes and follow ups? How much time is built in for charting? What support staff and what roles do they fill (RNs, therapists, case managers)? On call obligation? Paid by salary, RVUs, percent of collections, etc? Opportunity/obligation to supervise mid level and compensation for said supervision? Non compete clause? Any restriction on moonlighting outside clinic?

-who is my direct boss?
-who has the ability to fire me?
-are there "quality metrics" and what are they, how often are they reviewed?
-are there elements of the pay that are based on these (pointless) "quality" metrics?
-What is the vacation policy? How much notice in advance is needed to get it? Who approves it? Are there things that will impact approval? For instance a clinic might have ridiculous policy that there must always be some one in the outpatient clinic, so if others are out on vacation, and you are the last person standing, you don't get your time off...
-Are there any time points for when charting must completed, some places might say 7 days, 72 hours, 48 hours, 24 hours etc, and if violated what are the consequences?
-How much CME money is there and how is it reimbursed, i.e. do you send email to one person with receipts or do you have a long PITA form? Ask for the policy or form.
-Know the retirement benefits, read them closely. Whats the match percent, are you 100% vested from day one, or do they have some ridiculous delay before vesting?
-Do they have any rules that dictate how you practice, which they can't by the way, likes saying you can't prescribe benzos, or can't refer to XYZ, etc.
-What are the contract term length and how can you leave? Is it simply an email and you are out in 60 days? is it 90 days, 120 days? KNOW THE RULES OF HOW YOU CAN LEAVE
